Neomarica (Walking Iris)?

TY! I thought it seemed kind of Iris-ish, but didn't want to throw a wrong idea into the mix.

It looks like a Day Lilly to me. The root on one has a tuber that looks day lillish. The leaves have the midrib crease that iris do not have.

Hi DrP. Welcome to Gardenweb! Thanks for jumping in there to help, I appreciate it. Although this has a nickname of 'walking iris', the proper name, Neomarica, is different indeed. If one searches images of "Neomarica leaf," many ribbed leaves such as these show up. N. gracilis is hardy in this area, I discovered after investigating the suggestion (having come from someone considered an expert which, of course you wouldn't know. Hope you'll come by often to see what I mean, and any attempts to help are equally appreciated!)

I'm not much into daylilies but have had some in the past. Are there any that grow in a flat fan, as if between the pages of a book? Image search is helpful to refresh old memory about the similar midrib you mention, but I can't see a "flat fan" from any of the 2-D pics. Without any flowers, a bunch of leaves under a pencil could definitely be something else, that matches equally well to what little "we" know about this plant.
