Identification

Can anyone please help me to ID this plant. No one in the store new what it was. I took some pics. Maybe someone can tell what it is from this. It seems that I might be able to pinch the center and get new growth at the axis. I'm not sure. It's not a Goldfish or Lipstick, from what I've seen online. I really appreciate the help. I want to make sure it gets the right care.

Thanks. :)

From what I can see, the leaves match Hoya bella.

Forgot to add, there may be other hoya with the same leaf...I don't know.

This looks like a Columnea to me, could be Aeschynanthus, though.
Both need a light, well drained soil, moderate light, kept moist and fertilize at 1/4 strength with watering.
Why do you think it's not a goldfish or lipstick plant? Do you see any flowers on it? Both species have long tubular flowers, red and sometimes yellow or partly yellow. Both are also commonly found for sale in stores.

Here is a link that might be useful: Gesneriad Reference Web

I withdraw my ID...looking more closely at my plant, the leaves should be more triangular.

RE: Identification

It doesn't look like any of those....including the Goldfish and Lipstick. No flowers, no dried up buds. Took a closer pic. The stalks are segmented not smooth. The new growth is a little curled under. I hope it doesn't have any neighbors. I didn't see any bugs or signs other than the curling....unless that's what this plant does. BTW, the older leaves are thin and about 3 inches long.

Well, 3 inches makes the leaves about 2x as large as I thought from the first pic. In your last pic, what are the white bumps...blooms beginning? Break a leaf off where it's not visible and watch the "wound." Does it leak a milky sap? Are the leaves pliable or stiff? Do the leaves feel waxy?

RE: Identification

Do you mean the marks on the stalk? If so, those are the lines that look like the stems could be woody at some point. No milky sap, and where leaves have come off in the past, new leaves and stalks seem to start to grow. The leaves aren't waxy. Has a Croton feel to the leaf...smooth. A small stalk just broke off. I put it in a vase to see if it roots.

No, not the marks...look at the top pair of large leaves...the light reflecting off of your picture makes it difficult to tell if the growth in the axil of the leaf on the right is green or some other color. It doesn't look the right shape to be another leaf.

RE: Identification

They're all leaves folded under. All new growth. That's why I was concerned that it might be a pest causing that. They're not all like that. Check out yet another pic. Not very clear, but it's all new leaves. This top is in water. If I stop being lazy I'll take a pic with my camera, and post that instead.

Thanks so much for the help. I really appreciate it.
