| I was sitting in a restaurant in Northern Minnesota and looking out the window at a garden. There was lovely vine climbing a stairway that had large orange seed heads on it. I asked the waitress if she knew what it was. She said she had planted it two years ago (perennial), but she had couldn't remember the name, and had thrown away the tag. So I know it was purchased from a garden store. There were seeds on the ground and I took 3. The outer coating dried before I got home and they look very much like bittersweet only much larger. The leaves however, don't look like the native bittersweet we have here. I do have a closeup of the leaves if anyone cares to see that.
I would love to grow this plant but need to ID to know what to do with the seed. Thanks, much! |

| It looks like bittersweet to me, but perhaps the native species, Celastrus scandens, which produces fruit at the terminals only. |
Here is a link that might be useful: Celastrus scandens.

| Celastrus scandens'bailnum". Oriental bittersweet. |
|
| I was thinking it looked like the Bailey Nurseries introduction also. |
|
| Which seems to be scandens, American bittersweet and not oriental bittersweet |
