Name That Plant!

Grass with bristles - not likely Setaria

These roadside plants were about 2 feet tall. Spikes had spikelets on short pedicels, as shown in the 2nd photo. Spikelets had about 20 red bristles underneath, a first glume about 0.3 mm long, a second glume about 3 mm long, and a single floret about 7 mm long. The lemmas and glumes were not awned.

Elymus doesn't fit. That has long glumes and no bristles. Still checking other options, but thinking this might be something odd for the area.

Using the Grass Manual on the Web key, it seems that this could be Pennisetum flaccidum. That species hasn't yet been reported in the US, but it seems to fit.
