Fatsia japonica. It's badly hacked about so how about taking a cutting (they're easy) and putting it somewhere it has room to develop its tropicalesque personality to the full? It should be a small tree.

I dug up a healthy shoot that had some roots on it about a week ago and put it in a pot but so far its still wilted from shock but im hoping it will improve. The previous owners of this house must have tried to get rid of it by just hacking it to pieces but its now growing back alright (except for its shabby looking hackjob) but ive also noticed either a flower or a seed pod on it so maybe i can attemp to propagate it through seed as well.

Flower bud. It has flowers like a giant English ivy and they are followed by berries. But cuttings are faster and extremely easy.
