I think it's Physocarpus opulifolius, aka Ninebark.

Thanks Carol. This was driving me nuts. Physocarpus is not widely grown here, maybe because so many of us have slightly alkaline soils, and I was stumped. I was seeing the leaves like Viburnum opulus but couldn't pin down those fruit. Sure I ought to know it but couldn't put my finger on it.

It took me a few minutes to recall it. Although I grow it, I'm used to seeing the whole plant and my cultivar has bronze foliage. I first looked at the photo and thought the leaves could be a Viburnum but noticed the leaves were alternate, so it had to be something else.

'Diabolo' is now up to 50 suppliers. 44 are offering 'Dart's Gold'. It used to be when a plant got to 30 listings they replaced the source codes with "Widely available".
