Begonia or not? I have no idea

Hello,
I have two of these plants that were given to me this past spring. They are currently doing well is shade (some late afternoon sun). There have been no flowers. The leaves are waxy and green top and bottom. It's low to the ground (about 6" at highest) but again, it's only been in the ground for 1 season.
My mother thinks its a begonia, but I'm not convinced. any ideas?
