Can anyone identify this plant which was given to my wife? We have had it for a few years an it blooms nice. I have even propogated a new plant from a piece accidently broken off.

It's a Sinningia speciosa hybrid, a member of the generiad family. It is commonly called a gloxinia which is actually a different genus. It will have a tuber under the soil, and will usually go dormant in the winter. When it does, keep it cool and dry for a while, then begin watering again & it will start growing again.
