| Hello, I'm Engeddie. (This is my first post ever).
I was wondering if anyone knew what plant this was. It looks like a small tree, and was growing in a shady area by a stream in a park. The leaves are toothless and opposite. The berries are very shiny and seem to always be in a cluster of four right in the middle of the stem area. My main question is what is its name...and is it edible? (Don't worry, I won't eat it yet! LOL) I crushed some of the berries and they are more orange and gooey then, and they smell JUST like raw pumpkin, and have small seeds that look a lot like bell pepper seeds. |

| Probably Lonicera maackii or one of the other shrubby honeysuckles. |
|
| Thank you! I'm pretty sure that is what it is, after looking online for more pictures. |

| The placement of the berries indicates honeysuckle, the big pointed leaf Amur honeysuckle. People ask frequently here about shrubby honeysuckles, usually weedy species of foreign origin. |
|
| Considered invasive here. Has a hollow stem. In Wichita they have been fighting the spread in local parks. I'm not a registered ecofreak but this one has been a PITA in parks and arboretums. hortster |
