This Abelia was here when we moved in. I'd love to know which species or cultivar it is.

Thank you all for your responses! From photos on-line, I'm thinking it's the Abelia x grandiflora (Glossy Abelia). The flowers on the schumannii look pinker than mine. Of course, now I want a schumannii too.

The latter is effectively not present here, look for frequently offered 'Edward Goucher' instead. Up there I would give it a warm nook.
