What does anybody think of Soapwort Gentian?

There are only two populations of Gentiana saponaria in NY, both on Staten Island. It also doesn't start flowering until mid-September and the petals aren't free like that. Gentians in general wouldn't be flowering in July.

I had not come across Gentiana saponaria so I looked it up. I'm not convinced. I can't find any pictures of it with open flowers. They seem to remain folded as far as I can make out. And it has a collar of leaves just below the flower cluster which the OP's plant lacks. The picture also shows a long flower tube which the Gentian doesn't appear to possess.

If it is Gentiana saponaria it is listed as critically endangered in NY. Perhaps WildflowerCollector could photograph rather than pick?
