The leaves of this plant (shape/texture) remind me of a smaller (4-6 inch diameter) version of coltsfoot (tussilago). Leaves and stems all had obvious pubescence. 1/4 inch cream colored blooms formed at the tops of 12-16 inch stems... will see if I can find a slightly more in focus picture of them. :)

It just occurred to me that this may be some kind of Heuchera species? The hairy leaves were throwing me off and the blooms, while not all that extraordinary, are still a bit more prominent than the cultivated hybrids I've seen. Can anyone confirm? :) Thanks!!

That sure could be it. Definitely not the specimen planting that Northcreek shows, but nothing in New York looked it's best this year, aside from the Cardinal Flower and Great Blue Lobelia which seemed to thrive despite the poor growing season. Thanks a bunch for your input, carrieb! :)
