thorny tree - shrub?

This is a thorny bushy tree that is growing next to a pine. It is about 15 feet tall. The following two photos are close ups of the branches and leaves.
Any ideas?

One of the hawthorns. The group is nearly impossible to identify, cocks-spur, downy and dotted are common.

I have one very similar that we decided was Crataegus uniflora, the flowers are stunningly simple and beautiful. Here is a picture of mine in flower:
