Ornament Grass in Eastern Long Island

I'm hoping someone can tell me the name of this ornamental grass on the Eastern end of Long Island. I see more of it on the South Fork than the North Fork, however it's found on both sides of the bay. It's approx. 4-6' tall, has very skinny blades of grass and when the ends dry out they actually curl a bit. It's one of the only grasses out here that doesn't appear to flop mid-summer. I'm anxious to replace some I have along a fence that continue to flop. So far, when I've hit local nurseries I haven't found it. I have another photo closer up, however this forum only allows me to load one....

You can load another one in a follow up message (not a new one, but in this message itself).

Do you have any pictures of the seed head/flower?

Here is another shot, unfortunately it's sideways, thanks for the tip esh_ga! Unforunately, I do not have a photo with the seed head/flower, I'll keep an eye on the local plants to try to get a photo should the seed head appear...

Darn, the second picture did not come through. Be sure to use the browse box on the "image file to upload" box to select the picture from your computer.

When you hit "preview message", you should see your picture.

Okay, trying it again, clearly I'm a rookie at this!

Certainly Miscanthus is one of the most common ornamental grasses of that size. Without seeing the flower/seeds, that would be my best guess.

Some of the large native grasses in nurseries now are cultivars of Panicum virgatum such as 'Heavy Metal'. If you are interested in something native instead.
