| This 16 inch tall plant was about 5 feet off the water's edge, in heavy shade. It had an angled stem that was smooth. Some specimens in the area were to 36 inches tall, and widely branched in the inflorescence. Leaves were alternate, petiolate, and medium green and hairy on both sides. Flowers were in racemes, and very small. Each flower was about 0.040 inch across, with five translucent petals. |

| I think this one is an Amaranthus species. It doesn't have the spines of A. spinosus and is too hairy for A. hybridus, so I'll need to get a better specimen to run against the key. Thought I would reply to this in order to move it down the list. |
