Perhaps Viburnum plicatum.

HAHAHA that's hysterical! Because we actually *have* a Viburnum. It's huge and way overgrown and it's on the side of the house that I rarely travel to and I completely forgot what it looked like. And yes, I'm sure this is it. SO FUNNY. To me, anyway.

Perfect example of how unaware I can be of my surroundings sometimes, a little tidbit that husband loves to point out. He'll get a kick out of this one.

In all fairness, we only moved into this house in March '13 and I pruned the darn thing out a lot then, and promptly forgot about it. I posted it on here, back then, for a plant ID and someone clued me in. I actually love it-- the blooms smell delicious in spring and the leaves are pretty right now-- but whoever planted it had no idea what they were doing. It's planted less than 2 feet from our house, right next to a similarly sited Spirea. Neither of them belong there. I suppose one day we will dig them out altogether but right now can't afford to fill the space in so maybe I'll do another hard pruning.

Your fragrant Viburnum may be V. carlesii. , Koreanspice Viburnum.
