Appears to be one of the common white native asters. There are several similar species. Not something most people would cultivate but I don't know if that makes it a weed. It's certainly a plant.

Possibly an Erigeron. Love the Lamium behind it! So pretty!

Thanks guys-I found it growing in a few areas of my yard, I googled Erigeron and it is considered a weed. will be pulling them out.
"Weed Description: A summer annual or sometimes biennial reaching 1 to 2 ft in height with prominent white and yellow flowers. Primarily a weed of abandoned fields or pastures, but occasionally associated with agronomic crops. Found throughout the southeastern United States"

There are several hundred types of Erigeron of such cosmopolitan distribution that their nativity is muddled. A few plants can't be weeds if their appearance pleases you and unless/until the seeds ripen, IMO, even if you determine the particular species is non-native.

In laymans' terms, why not enjoy the flowers first?

Hi-I'll leave it until a killing frost-don't want it to spread tho. Thanks again for the id and glad you like the lamium its a great ground cover.

You don't even know if it is an Erigeron yet. It looks more like an Aster to me, as Lycopus suggested. Whatever it is, if it is a native perennial frost will not kill it. It will need weeding out if you don't want it.

Didn't think I said anything that conflicted with that, but thanks!

No, no purple. I didn't mean anything you said. The OP referred to waiting for a frost to kill it and I just meant that that wouldn't kill a native perennial. They also took up the Erigeron suggestion and appeared to dismiss the Aster id. Basically, I just meant 'Hold on, it's not solved yet.

Aaah, gotcha! Another fine example of the value of facial expressions and voice tone, which I'm sure would have made what both of us said much clearer. Smiles!
