Name That Plant!

Climbing vine, lawn, red stalk, initial red leaves, 5 leaflets

Please help identify this weed that is taking over my St. Augustine lawn.

It is a climbing vine like plant. It is hard to kill and comes back when you chop or mow it. It starts out with small reddish leaves that turn green as it grows. It climbs onto anything it can find. it has a woody stalk, single sub stalks to a single leaf, but 4 leaves also come off that single sub stalk, leaving 5 leaves in a cluster.

Compare with Ampelopsis arborea.

Yes, that is Pepper Vine (Ampelopsis arborea). It's a native, and a favorite of wildlife thanks to the fall berries. I don't have much of a problem with it, but I weed by hand.

Thanks, guys, I think you're right! None of the vines in my yard have fruit, but some in the trees in the woods out back do have the characteristic black fruit.
