you might want to stop fertilizing ...

you might want to decide if there are too many fert salts in the pot ... are they caked around the edge of the pot .????

which might lead you to repotting in some fresh media ...

and you might want to encourage some of the shoots you are rubbing off ... and prune out the old part ... lets call it.. rejuvenating the plant .. which would make repotting a lot easier .... [are you using watershoots as a term of art??? .. ]

when is the last time you changed out the media???? .. i cant see the pot in this pic ...

with severe yellowing like this.. i am concerned.. you have rotted or burned off the roots ... if it werent so tall ... i would ask you to tip it out of the pot.. and find out what is going on.. in the pot ...

and i have no clue what the plant is.. as the recommendations.. dont matter to what the plant is.. i will defer to the biologists among us... for the ID ...

once you get the ID.. head to the houseplant forum ... for further advice ...

I was going to say the same thing about leaving the new shoots.

Would you be able to add another pic of this plant? (You can add one new one, per reply.) It looks chlorotic, whatever it is. Repotting as suggested above should help with that, regardless of name.

Has it been in the same container for 5 years? If so, it most definitely needs repotting in fesh potting soil and perhaps even a larger pot. It may be so rootbound that it is unable to absorb sufficient water and nutrients to keep the plant heathy.

Potting soils do deteriorate over time........

I think it's a Hoya too, post this in the Hoya forum, someone there will probably know which one it is.

How big are the leaves?
Could it be a vanilla orchid?

Hoyas don't have those leaf vein patterns (parallel beginning at petiole). It looks familiar, but I'm not up on all the tropical plants.

It almost looks like a cinnamon leaf, but it's probably not.

Maybe something in Piper genus?

The leaves look similar to Hoya macrophylla but it also looks a lot like cinnamon leaf as Dave said. Has yours ever flowered?

Just looked up Hoya macrophylla. That could just be it! Not familiar with it.

Several hoyas do have that parallel leaf venation.
