Are they good trees? Thanks, Jeannie :)

What do you mean by good? It looks like some kind of maple (Acer) but not sure its sycamore. Could also be the similar Plane (Platanus) |

Good meaning sturdy trees like the oak tree or do they make a mess of the ground like Talla trees and other trees? Thanks, Jeannie:)

greenlarry - I'm sure you know already, but 'Sycamore' is used in the US to mean what we would call 'Plane' ie Platanus sp. So esh_ga agrees with you. Our 'Sycamore' is Acer pseudoplatanus. Common names are a mess even within one country - when we start using them across borders we're in trouble. Check out 'Rose of Sharon', 'Mimosa' etc. To us that is Hypericum calycinum and Acacia dealbata.... in the US that's Hibiscus syriacus and Albizia julibrissin.

By the cut of the leaf I would say Platanus occidentalis.

They are fast growing trees with beautiful bark. They do drop big leaves and seeds balls (not prickly balls like sweet gum). They love wet areas, often growing along streams. I like them.

Flora, also the original Sycamore is a Ficus!

Thanks to all. I believe it is a Platanus occidentalis - Sycamore. It came up in a huge pot that has no drainage holes that I have a Canna in and both needs plenty of water. Thanks again, Jeannie :)
