Identify this seed pod/bulb?

I found two of these randomly place in my yard this past Thursday. I can only assume that squirrels dug them up somewhere and dropped them with me. I brought one inside to photograph and show my husband, and it remained inside the 70 degree house. Since Friday, when I brought it in, the largest "nodes" have split open and revealed bright red seeds, roughly the size of large blueberries. The pod/bulb that stayed outside has not opened.

Any idea what this is? If you know, can I keep the seeds (if it's an interesting plant)? Or did the pod open to early? Like I said, the cold one outside hasn't opened.

Sorry for the poor cell phone pic. The pod is covered in nodes, sort of like small plant sprouts, and is brightly colored in reds and oranges.
