tree id - Iowa

I know now is not a good time to attempt to ID a tree but it looks like it has opposite branching so it might be possible. It's way too tall for me to reach or possibly even take a useful pictures of anything still on the tree.

These sprouts are all over the yard and seem to match what few leaves, far away, we could see

Someone said ash but I'm not sure the bark is right Just tell me it's not box elder so I can use the wood around my small animals. I haven't noticed seeds but the lawn is not well mowed and there is a maple hanging over the fence. On the end branches there are gatherings of tiny bits that might have held seeds and are so thin they just brush off.

It's an ash (Fraxinus).

all those fallen leaves around it... and you cant find one you think is relative???? .. cant be long.. before every leaf on it.. will be burying you ... lol ... we will wait...

give it a try ... in addition to your seedling theory ...

What good is curled , wilted leaves that no longer hold shape?

As previously stated, it is an ash. Bark fits ash as well.

so the leaves from the big tree... match the seedling ... eh ...

therefore the seedlings is also an ash ...

and you were right...

i always like dichotomies that end in me .. or in this case you.. being right...

I agree, it looks like an ash. They have very distinctive seeds- google them for an image. If you found dead leaves on the ground you might also find the seeds.
