| Hi,
I have this plant that started growing flowers around mid September. Sturdy, strong leaves, not much deadheading to do as far as I can tell. What is it and how do I generally take care of it? Thanks! |

| Skimmia japonica 'Rubella" This plant takes care of itself. Very easy. |

| It's in too much sun. That bleached out look of the foliage is a sure-fire indicator of unwanted direct sunlight. This is an evergreen shrub that needs shade and consistently moist soil to look its best. Improper growing conditions can also result in mite infestations, very common with skimmia. This could also be an issue on your plant if the foliage looks dotted or stippled - too small a shot for me to tell for sure. btw, the "violet flowers" are still just buds - they will redden up and eventually bloom white later in the winter. Not absolutely convinced this is 'Rubella' - most male Japanese skimmias will produce similar buds at this time of year (males have the showier flowers of the species). |
