| Found locally in a "wild lawn" area adjacent to a pond, part sun. Roots and shoots at each node, leaves about an inch long, plain medium green, flowers were in a sheath like Commelina communis, but with a 3rd petal, and much smaller than C. communis I've seen before. Inside the sheath are tiny yellow things on white filaments - stamens?
Didn't have my camera out there, just phone. Brought a piece home, completely wilted and the flowers have closed, but it's available to consult since my description is not very scientific. A different Commelina? A Tradescantia? |

| It may be the native dayflower - take a look at a couple of the pictures in the Image Gallery in the enclosed link. |
Here is a link that might be useful: commelina erecta
|
| If that bottom petal turns up like a small cup, flowers are tiny and all three petals are blue, it is probably Commelina diffusa. |
|
| A scourge. It's taken over my beds and I can't get rid of it. |

| Thanks for the replies! I hadn't realized there were native Commelinas. I'm pretty sure this is the diffusa, from the way the 3rd petal is so visible. This was a really pretty patch in the "lawn" but agree, eahamel, probably not something I want to unleash in a flower bed. |
