ajuga?

I don't think it's Ajuga, either from the appearance or 'started growing a few weeks ago'.

Have you ever grown Petunias or Nicotiana in that area?

It's pretty generic looking, other candidates vary from mustards to potatoes :)

Or maybe I just can't see early in the morning.

Another possibility is violas.

Is this a bromeliad? It has 3 stems cascading from the main plant with buds? all along the stems.

I have not grown any Petunias or Nicotina, or anything else in that area besides zinnias. I think it's some type of weed, but I've never seen it before. The closest thing I could find that resembles it is Bittercress. Here's another picture of a smaller outcropping. Thank you all for the suggestions

Back to the original question - it isn't Bittercress. In fact it doesn't look like anything in the Brassicaceae. Are the leaves slightly felted? I'm still getting a Solanaceae/Nicotiana type feeling from it.

mmmm, that rosette looks suspiciously plantain like (plantago)......

Oh, I don't think so, Campanula - look at the spoon shapeleaves, the apparent felting, the lack of sinewy veination. Plus the way it is putting out longer shoots in the top picture. Nothing like a Plantago of any kind imo.

My other guess was plantain as well, but will have to wait and see if it blooms or does something to indicate what it is. Thanks again everyone

I'd be prepared to bet money it is not a plantain.
