Interesting Looking Plant Pod

Posted by TEN_B New York (My Page) on

These interesting bamboo looking stalks with interesting looking pods recently popped up amongst the weeds next to my driveway. We are in Putnam County, NY.

One was opened and has some black residue inside.

Thanks everyone for your help.

The pod is a milkweed (Asclepias). The plant looks to have lost its leaves for this year.

RE: Interesting Looking Plant Pod

It looks like a milkweed ( Asclepias or related) pod. Milkweeds are host plants for monarch butterflies which lay eggs on the leaves. The caterpillars may have eaten the foliage.
