My two year old daughter may have eaten a berry from a small tree or large shrub near our home. After a lot of research I'm pretty sure that it's not one of the commonly-known poisonous berries, but it would do wonders for my peace of mind to know exactly what it is. I'd very much appreciate any help with this.

It looks like it might be Privet (Ligustrum is the scientific name).

Thank you!!! That's definitely it. I found images at http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/poison/Ligusja.htm and it's a lingustrum japonicum, also known as the waxleaf privet. The berries are poisonous, but I called poison control and the said that one berry (which is the most she could possibly have gotten) is nothing to worry about.
