Kinda hard to tell from an upside down photo, but my guess is Fatsia polycarpa 'Needham's Lace.'

Japanese aralia, Fatsia japonica. Don't prune it back now - wait until late winter. This can often get some cold damage in a rough winter and not a good idea to expose non-hardened plant tissue to cold weather.

And they tolerate pretty hard pruning. Will rejuvenate from almost ground level is necessary.

Thanks very much. I'm sure it's Fatsia Japonica. Here in Portland we done often get hard winters, but when we have had a long cold period (week) the plant was damaged pretty severely. So I will wait til late March before I trim it. I will cut it back pretty extensively but allow the younger stalks to take over.

Then your porch must have an interesting design.... ;) Photos taken with tablets often post upside down or sideways to GW viewers, but are auto corrected for tablet users/ original posters.

Trust us, your first photo is upside viewing from a PC. The second photo is sideways, or you have a bit of mossy sidewalk installed vertically, and a piece of downspout not down but parallel to the ground.:)

The photos are upsidedown/sideways for me too but right themselves if you click on them. At least they do on my PC.

Portland is a little colder in winter than up here (Seattle), with a plant like this likely to be zapped a little more often. Although often seen, sometimes in large sizes this plant is on the border in this region.
