please id this late stay

Hi,
This popped up in my flower garden at the start of spring. Its late autumn and the leaves are still very green although the tree's in the nearby woods are all yellow or red. I think its either a bush or tree as the stem is vary tough and looks like smooth bark.

Probably an Ash tree.

thanks all

its much too close to the house so i'm gonna have to pull it.
The flower bed is pretty loose soil so with any luck I will get the complete tree with tap root. I can relocate it as I have plenty of places to do that.

The emerald ash borer will be killing all of our ash trees in the near future. It started in Michigan and has been spreading eastward. It is now in PA and in a few years? I will be spending lots of money to remove dead ash trees that are near the house.

I don't know where you are or if it is projected to be in your area.They estimate that over 40 million ash trees have already been killed. What a mess!

I doubt it will even survive transplanting anyway...but there are so many other things worthwhile. as Kimpa said, the EAB is becoming a huge problem.
