Absolutely love this & would love to know what it's called.... assuming it is some variety of Astilbe, growing in shaded garden area. Also, if anyone has experience with collecting Astilbe seed (how/what/when?) or growing them from seed (do these come true from seed?), I would very much appreciate any info you could share!(if not, I will try the seed forum, thanks anyway!)

Yes, astilbe. More than one red kind being grown. Normally acquired by gardeners as plants rather than seeds.

I save seed from Astilbes and also grow them from seed. Snip off the seed head when it is brown, then place it on a paper plate inside to dry further. When it is dry I usually run my fingers along the stem to remove the "pods", or tap the seed head on the paper plate. The seeds are like dust. I then wintersow them. One thing-they might not come true from seed but it is fun to see what you get:-) Rhonda
