It is not Rhododendron. How did you come by this plant?

This plant is presently growing in the Philippines. The terminal clusters of the flowers reminded me of Rhodos so I searched for tropical rhododendrons and came up with this website for vireyas or tropical rhodos and they can be native to the Philippines.

In the future it would be helpful to mention that the plant is located in a location that is different from yours.

I'm sorry I don't know what it is, but the foliage resembles quite a few plants, not just Rhododendron.

Neither magnolias nor rhododendrons produce paired leaves (leaves attached to the stems at the same points), so even without the flowers it can be told that this plant is not one of those.

Maybe try a tropicals forum to see if anyone there knows it.

I'm thinking that this is possibly Strophanthus gratus. Neat plant!

The genus name probably refers to the crown-like bit in the middle of the flower (magnolias and rhododendrons don't have that either).
