Any ideas what plant this may be. Thanks, Jeannie :)

It appears that the person that potted it up thinks it's a vine based on the trellis in the pot, right?

RE: Plant ID please!

It was purchased as a Jessamine Carolina Staked from Lowes and I had posted it in the Garden Clinic to figure out why the new leaves are smaller and curling....someone there suggested that it wasn't such and said I should post it here.....so here it is! The mini trellis came with it. Thanks, Jeannie :)

RE: Plant ID please!

I agree it's not that. Any evidence of clinging pads (I don't see any tendrils) for attaching itself?

RE: Plant ID please!

Carolina jessamine climbs only by the use of tendrils...doesn't form the pads like Hedera or some other climbing vines.

I'm the one who sent my friend Jeannie over here from the Pest and Diseases forum. It's not Gelsemium sempervirens, but I just can't place it!

Celastrus?

RE: Plant ID please!

Yes, I know Carolina jessamine climbs by tendrils - I already said I don't think that's it.

But I would like to know if there is any evidence of clinging pads so that we might figure out what it IS.

Here's a close up of the largest stem (main branch)....I don't see any tendrils or climbing pads on the branches with the leaves on it. Maybe I should take it back since I thought I was purchasing Jessamine Carolina. Thanks, Jeannie :)

RE: Plant ID please!

Taking it back would be totally up to you. I'd be a little leery about bringing an unknown species into my yard...not knowing its behavior nor what it needs to be happy. But that's me.

You might be able to find some more of those same plants, properly labled. OR maybe even find some real Carolina jessamine.

Esh, I'm so sorry...I did misinterpret your comment. Please forgive me. What do you think of rugby's suggestion of Celastrus?

RE: Plant ID please!

If it's a Celastrus paniculatus (black oil tree) an herb plant, I might just keep it. I'll have to wait for blooms. Thanks, Jeannie :)

Here is a link that might be useful: Amazing Seeds

RE: Plant ID please!

Yes Celastrus orbiculatus (oriental bittersweet) seemed a possibility; doesn't look quite like the American one.

It's ok, rhizo ;)
