Would help to know WHERE in Australia you are. You sure that isn't mistletoe?

Mistletoe is a leathery-leaved parasitic plant that grows on apple, oak, and other broadleaf trees and bears white glutinous berries in winter. Mistletoe isn't a tree.

Looks like a eucalyptus or mallee species. But I'm not from Australia!

Maybe Eucalyptus spathulata (Swamp Mallee)?

There are so many species! I've read there 700 species with only NINE of these NOT occurring anywhere in Australia!

I'm thinking Eucalyptus (gum tree), too.

why do you throw around a word like NATIVE ... if you dont know what the plant is ... ???

what do you mean by native??? ... that it planted itself there decades ago ????

my simple point ... dont limit your/our search by including a very specific horticultural term... unless you are sure it applies

i suspect.. you are not using the term in a scholarly way ..

Actually, arkansas girl, in Australia there IS a tree mistletoe. It's huge and has orange flowers and blooms around Christmas time, hence its name, the WA Christmas tree. Mistletoes in Australia are different from the northern hemisphere kind.
There is an aerial mistletoe that kind of looks like the foliage in the photo, but to me the photo looks like eucalyptus leaves and baby gumnuts.

Yes, those are definitely "baby gumnuts."

[I grew up in California with eucalyptus, but this is the first time I've seen the word "gumnuts". Lovely word!

And for those who may not know, eucalyptus are also referred to as gum trees.]

Ken's comment echoed my own: How do you know the tree to be "native" yet you do not know the identity? That cracked me up right there. I guess 'native' just means............uh, whatever!
