Plants at new house :)

Here is the next picture. I know in the back are barberries, and in front of them a couple hostas, right below the hostas is a very small green plant that I'm not sure. Another small type of hosta? In the front of the picture are several small compact plants with small purplish flowers, don't know what this is, either. (I think the green grass stuff is just a water grass, weed, comes up all over)

(We bought a new house this summer and there are a lot of plants I don't know what they are. I've taken a lot of pictures of them close up and farther away. I hope you all can help me out with this. I will only put one or two at a time so as not to get too confusing! I took these a couple months ago and I am in zone 6. Our lot is wooded.)

Thanks in advance :)

Compare with Peony.

yes, I do believe that is a peony next to the hosta. There is a small plant that is at the base of those two (right behind the grassy shoot). It has dark pointed leaves. This was taken in Sept.

I cropped the picture, now you can see it on the upper left and also the mounding type plant with the bluish/purple flowers.
Thanks!

Looks almost like lavender, but hard to see details. Is the foliage fragrant?

Could it be Lithodora diffusa?

I'll try to get a better picture of the front plants tomorrow ( and also the one in the back). The foliage is very stiff and "spiky". Looks like it could be evergreen, maybe. I don't think I know what lavendar smells like but this smells somewhat spicy/sweet, cinnamon, curry something like that. It's a very interesting smell!

Phlox subulata?

aka creeping phlox ...

any chance you have a photo editor.. to point at the plant you are talking about ...

looks like some of that evil quack grass in there also..

try golden tiara on the hosta ...

your barberry.. almost look like weigalia ... though i cant tell if those are dangling flowers.. or weird light on leaves ... regardless.. they are both about 5 feet to close to the house ... consider getting rid of them.. someday ... or at least learn about rejuvenation pruning.. to bring them back into a proper size ...

Could be creeping phlox, it is really stiff. The shrubs are barberry, they are cut away from the stucco in the back but I agree they are two close. I think the landscaping is hodgepodge but I want to see what is there first. We just moved in in August, so yard things will have to wait till next spring.

I'd get the weeds out of the Phlox (if that's what it is) or they'll seed in your mulch.
