Local yellow spiky thing blooming now

Seen roadside. About 2 ft. tall. Making pods that look like fat brown snow peas, with shiny black seeds. The foliage in the forefront on the left also belongs to this plant. TIA!

A tip without blooms.

The pods looked explosive, although molesting ripe-looking ones didn't cause any to burst. They curled up like this after opening.

Baptisia??

I think you may be right, maybe Baptisia sphaerocarpa? Was only aware of the blue/purple one. 'Twould be cool if I found a native. I just can't find any pics that look identical...

I do believe it is Baptisia sphaerocarpa. Not as popular in the landscape; a few varieties float around our nursery. I prefer the blue. But love my legumes!!!

Thank you. Here are the seeds. Hard to find pics of seeds on the WWW. Do they look like B. sphaerocarpa?

I'll throw this one in, have a look at Crotalaria spectabilis.

I agree with Thedecoguy. The seeds look like C. spectablis and the foliage is not the right color or texture for baptisia which is a smooth leaf with a blue-green color.

If Crotalaria spectabilis then it is non-native.

Here is a link that might be useful: Crotalaria spectabilis

Yes, that's a better match, identical as far as I can tell. Thanks, folks, I'd call this solved.
