Hello, I am having trouble ID'ing this wild plant I photographed in West VA this past October. The leaves look SOOOO familiar to me but I am having no luck with guides. Can anyone help?

Could it be Berberis thunbergii?

I suppose it must be, despite the fact that it was in the woods/campground area of Cooper's Rock State Forest....:(

It's an invasive species in many States.

I see that now, as I read, thanks. The leaves reminded me so much of a crown of thorns house plant I used to have, but I know that house plant does not get berries.

You're right. It's not related to Euphorbia milii, Crown of Thorns, at all.

I miss Coopers Rock: great place to find all sorts of plants. I hope you walked the Hemlock Forest trail just up the road. Much more serene.
