Quercus Robur is the oak we have here in Sweden and it looks nothing like this.

What has that to do with an Oak tree in South Texas? Surely you realize plants look different depending on species and location.

it will die in that cement.. or whatever it is ...

if you plan on keeping it in a pot ... buy a bag of cactus mix ... very porous.

trees like a sip of water.. and near full drainage ...

come ask in the tree forum if you want to double check me ...

sand is sublime for trees... when it is mother earth ... once you put sand in a pot.. you can not predict water flowing thru it properly ... and your tree will be too wet for too long.. and then too dry ... and not rewet properly ....

It's planted in Sand, Ken. Makes me wonder if you've ever been out of Michigan.

Gregorson - there are squillions of oaks out there, some of which look nothing like the oaks you and I are used to.

This is a Quercus. But I wouldn't dare venture a closer id.

Quercus fusiformis looks like this in the middle of Texas.

Seedlings of some live oaks definitely leaf out like this, though there may be others among the many oaks that grow in the state. The following link pictures a similar seedling from the Century live oak at Texas A&M University..... for a moment, I thought it was even growing in sand.

Looks just like a live oak seedling. Likely Quercus virginiana or Quercus fusiformis. Do you have Sand Live Oak there (Quercus geminata)?

Thank you everyone for your replies. My property consist of all sand soil. So yes it was growing in sand.

You'll probably see live oak acorns all over the ground like saltcedar is showing. This is the time of year they fall.
