Flowering bush

Hello all.

I am new here, so forgive me if I have posted this incorrectly, adding pictures has never been a strong point of mine.

We purchased our house in the spring, and although the yard was very out of control, it was obvious that at some time, the older lady we bought the house from had been an avid gardener. I do not have the greenest thumb in the world, but allot of free time, so I am trying to get the yard and gardens back in shape.

The picture I am requesting help in identify is of a large bush that did not bloom at all this year until one lone bloom showed up yesterday. I had assumed it was some type of azalea, as we have those all over the yard, but the leaves are a little different.

Any help is appreciated, and sorry for the rambling post!

RE: Flowering bush

You're absolutely right, it is another azalea. Different varieties with sometimes have different looking leaves. I'm not familiar with the care of azaleas in IL but down here, they need a lot of extra care to acidify the soil around them and they can't take too much sun.
