Thankyou all very much for your help. Could anyone say for sure whether it is edible?!? I was nibbling on one last week - it tasted initially of rosemary. Matt

Edible, yes. Palatable, up to you. However, I would not eat even an edible flower from a florist. You do not know where it has been or what it has been treated with since it has not been grown as a food crop.

Never, ever eat a flower from a florist or other retailer. Cut flowers are a high pesticide use crop. Maybe even the highest use of agricultural chemicals of any crop. There are few pesticide use regulations on cut flowers, since they are not considered a food crop. Chemical residues are not simply not monitored. And that's in THIS country! The majority of cut flowers are now imported....from countries with fewer regulations than the US. This is the dirty little secret of the cut flower industry. They loaded with chemicals.

Please don't eat anything until you know what it is! You might get exposed to pesticide residues at best, but at worst you could die. I just read a news story about how some nursing home residents died thinking they could eat mushrooms they found outside. Too often people ask us what a plant is after they have consumed it. Be very careful!
