Mullein

Yes: a Verbascum. The bending over of leaves near the center may indicate it needs something, such as being sheltered or watered.

Lambs ears, yeah right! I don't see this guy as a keeper in my woodland garden or am I mistaken?

I have moth mullein in one of my flower beds. It volunteered a couple of years ago. I liked it and let it go to seed so it would return the next year. But I buy from a small seed-seller who has it for sale with her garden flowers.

The leaves in the photo are a different mullein, perhaps Verbascum thapsus, aka great mullein or common mullein. It's the wrong color for my sunny bed, and too tall, but some people do grow it intentionally, and there are vendors who sell the seed (as well as shorter hybrids).

It's not fond of shade, so your woodland garden is an odd place for it. It's a biennial, flowering the second year. Info and photos:
