| I think this is some kind of indoor palm plant but can't find it on the web. (I will post another picture on another message so you can see the stalk.) |

| This is 3 stalks in one pot. You will notice that one stalk is black. I recently transplanted it because the roots were coming out the bottom of the prior pot. I am trying to identify this plant so I can figure out how to address the black stalk. (The dead stalk has a small shoot coming off of its root system, so I didn't cut the stalk but am wondering if I should). Can anyone help me identify this plant? Also, any advice on the dead stalk with small shoot coming out of bottom would be great. Thank you, plant experts! |

" Ken, house plants, and especially Dracaenas, can live a LOT longer than 5 years (which I hope you weren't insinuating as an acceptable time span for a plant to stay in the same soil/pot.) With proper care, house plants can be passed down from generation to generation. Slow-growers like this one take years to reach the size of the pictured plant. Propagating it would require removing at least one of the two tops, and there is no guarantee of success for the severed piece. Not an attractive option for someone who just wants one large plant. Kooky, the dark stalk is dead and there's no reason not to cut it off at the soil line. If you have any further questions about the care of your Dracaena, come on over to the house plant forum. |
