| This plant was in a sandy collection area on a golf course, in full sun. It was 5.7 inches long by 2.3 inches wide, and prostrate, with the max height less than 1 inch. Most parts of the plant were covered with appressed hairs. The tiny heads were only 0.150 inch across, with white ray flowers and greenish-white disc flowers. The flowers were on short pedicels, with (I think) 6 phyllaries per head. Leaves were lanceolate, and had short petioles with blades to 0.6 inch long by 0.150 inch wide. Leaf tips were acute to acuminate. I couldn't tell if the leaves were opposite or alternate, because they were so densely packed along the stem.
This plant looks a bit like a miniature Eclipta prostrata, but is surely something else. |

| Reminds me of Mesembryanthemum. But I don't think it occurs in your area. |
Here is a link that might be useful: Mesembryanthemum

| Thanks kaliaman. We have lots of Eclipta prostrata in this area, and they're usually 1 to 2 feet tall with much larger flowers and leaves around 3-6 inches long. I find it amazing that the plant on the golf course could be the same species, but guess that's the probable answer. Also appreciate your input rugbyhuker. Mesembryanthemum is a new genus for me, so was interesting to read about. |
