Unknown composite

This plant was growing in a shady area in moist clay soil in SE Texas. The whole plant was composed of a cluster of unbranched stems with single flowers at ther apexes, so I'm assuming it's a rhizomatous perennial. Maybe something related to Maximillian sunflower? Each shoot was about a foot and a half tall. The leaves are very rough.

Just wondering if it can be swamp sunflower. I see opposite leaves at the top of Texasflip's picture.

Thanks, I think ya'll are right. I saw some online pictures of H. angustifolius with alternate leaves and some with opposite, so maybe it's variable.
