Geranium - pelargonium, maybe p. Santa Maria. One of those grown for more interesting leaves, sometimes referred to as 'fancy leaved' types.

(Your better nurseries should have them in Spring, possibly earlier in your mild climate)

How much sun was the basket getting? My first thought was it could be fargugium/Ligularia 'Argentea' growing through a geranium but it wouldn't take a great deal of sun in coastal CA.

I'm pretty sure the variegated leaves do not belong to that Pelargonium, or any Pelargonium. The texture looks all wrong as do the petioles and shape. I think morz8 was correct in saying it was Farfugium japonicum 'Argenteum' in the basket with the Pelargonium. How the two plants were persuaded to grow together is another matter. Maybe the combination did not last long.

Thanks for the response. I guess you could say the basket was in full sun but it never gets very hot or very cold in Carmel. They do get a lot of fog.

Too bad you weren't asking about a fruit tree, because then we could tell you it was a Carmel apple.

The white variegated Farfugium was for years one of those things I only saw in pictures originating overseas. Now we can buy it here, too, obviously.
