*please* help me id this plant

I would search & try to ID it myself
But can't say I'v ever seen this plant or one like it before & have no idea where to even start to look

Sorry don't have any pics of the actual plant
But would describe it as a small to mid sized thin tree or large shrub

Seed pods burst in to a cotton like fiber which the seeds are in bedded in
But it's not quite like any other cotton seed pod fiber I've seen before
It's more like the fiber fill you'd find in something like a sleeping bag or pillow

Pic 1
Flower - Leaf - Seeds
(Will post more pics)

Any help IDing this plant will be greatly appropriated

Thanx
Eric

Gossypium barbadense?

Looks like cotton (Gossypium sp.) to me as well. It is a beautiful plant and easy to grow from seed. Even in my Northern location it grew and produced gorgeous flowers similar looking to other Malvaceae. While it did produce bolls, they did not fully mature with my short season. I'm sure such a plant will do so much better in southern CA.

Anyone have any good advice on germinating the seeds

Sow now & let them do their thing???
Or
Wait till the spring???

Thanx

I have no idea for your zone/conditions. I live in NY State - other side of the country from you. We have vastly different conditions. To grow the cotton, I direct sowed the seed into rich garden soil about the same time I was planting tomato and pepper transplants into the veggie garden. I kept it watered until it germinated. It was pretty tolerant of my Northern summer conditions (cooler and more rain than southern locations) and it needed little if any attention after that. I imagine indoor seed starting and transplanting after started would also be a good option.

fatamorgana

Thanx for your input / Appreciate it

I like to get a head start on my veggie garden so I usually plant a little early
But basically we get stuff like tomatoes and peppers started around March / April

I read it was hardy in zones 9 - 11 / I'm in like coastal Z10 / So should be good
& "Full sun, needs high humidity and high rainfall"
"The plant is very sensitive to frost, so plant in frost free areas"
This is the time of year we get the most rain fall here & we very rarely get below the mid to low 40s / No frost
So ???

I have this mind set that if a plant is seeding
That's the time of year the seeds would hit the ground (In nature)
So that's the time to plant them
Even if they need a cold strat. period mother nature will take care of that
Know that might not always be the fact / But just can't seem to shake that mind set

Guess I'll pot up a few now & toss them in my greenhouse & I'll hold on to a few till the spring

Thanx again for the info
