Name That Plant!

Asian berry bush?

I recently bought my home from a divorcee. His ex-wife collected asian fruit trees. He told me she is from Southern Thailand as are many of the fruit trees on the property. At this point, I have identified all but this one. The flowers start out white and turn to burgundy red then produce a white berry. I do not know if the berry changes color as the iguanas eat them all before they fully mature. Any ideas? Thanks for any tips!

It looks like something in the Euphorbiaceae to me. Some sort of Sauropus?

Many thanks to you MissingTheObvious! I searched the word "Sauropus" as you suggested and BAM! There it is! I am surprised to find out that it's new growth are cooked like asparagus! It appears that this plant is specifically Sauropus androgynus.

Glad to help, Ray. (As it happens, it was pure luck....)

Sauropus apparently lacks the latex sap common to most Euphorbs, which can cause problems in some folks -- sometimes severe. But if you have any weird problems after handling it, trimming it, or eating it, ask the doctors to look up Sauropus on the web.
