UK bush identification request

Hi, I'm a novice gardener in the UK, looking to identify the following bush or small tree in the garden of a Victorian house we've recently purchased. I'm not expecting it to be very exotic as the rest of the garden is planted with very basic shrubs and trees.

The bush is intertwined with some holly and is currently (December) covered in red berries that have emerged from fruits with three sections. The leaves are slightly serrated. I think it had white flowers back in the summer, but I can't be sure.

Friends have suggested cherry laurel or Japanese privet, but the red berries don't seem to fit with pictures I've seen on the web.

Thanks for your help.

Tim
