I never saw anything like that before! What are the big green leafed plants in front of it? What part of France?

The first two pics look like some Emilia. There is at least one orange annual species, and perhaps several synonyms to complicate matters.

The last pic looks somewhat different, but that could be just a very well fed specimen.

There is actually a E. sonchifolius, but that flowers purple, I think. Let's see, what else crops up, bye, Lin

Could it be that the plant in the last pic had its central stem snapped off? Would explain the few flowers on shortish stems...

Many thanks to you all. The garden was on Menton in the Côte d'Azur near Nice. In the last pic the large leaves belong to the plant with the orange flowers but the stem has been cut. In Emilia the calyx is different so i don't believe it is one...thus the mystery seem to continue...

I just got curious, only know a funny Gynura aurantiaca (which never flowerd for me) as a pot plant.

so I kept looking, and that one cropped up: Gynura cusimba, no clue, what it is grown for, the foliage looked fairly similar.

A lot of thanks Linaria!!! Yes it is really a Gynura cusimbua (D. Don) S. Moore. I see also in eFlora of China were there is an illustration of the plant and a detailed description.
