Maybe an escapee

These plants were growing in open ground, in dense woods about 30 yards from a swamp. They had leaves to about 18 inches long by 0.5 inch across that were flexible. Some of the leaf edges were a bit fibrous, as is sometimes seen with Yucca. The leaves came from the top of a woody section that rose from the forest floor. That section was 6 to 8 inches tall, and about 1.5 inches wide. It had many rings where past-season leaves had formed, so the plants appeared to be several years old. Some of the plants seemed to be connected underground, since adjacent plants moved when a stem was jiggled.
