| I have two of these trees in my backyard and cannot figure out what they are. I have tried to get rid of them but they seem to come back fuller and more annoying. They do not flower. They have light colored bark. The leaves have a funny smell. Any ideas? |

| tree of heaven.. which is the curse of hell ... an invasive weed everywhere .. cut it off at ground level.. and apply 100% roundup or stump killer to the cut ... its not a spray thing ... and keep cutting them down.. and killing them.. until the roots get the clue that you want it to die ... hunt them down every 6 to 8 weeks ... just cutting it down will not hurt it ... ken |

| Sambucus (elder or elderberry) is a genus of between 5 and 30 species of shrubs or small trees in the moschatel family, Adoxaceae. It can be a useful plant. |
|
| And it cannot be what is being asked about here. |
|
| The only use I have for it is as a host plant for the Samia cynthia (Alianthus silkmoth caterpillar.) |
